Hebron Christian Academy • Mrs. Dones's 5th & 6th Grades
From Mrs. Dones
Even though I was faithful to my local Baptist Church growing up, I attended public and Catholic schools until my junior year of College. I believe the Lord called me to a Christian education that would greatly impact my life.
It wasn't until I got there that I realized how much I had missed. How rich it would have been to have several Bible verses memorized each week and God's principles and doctrines taught to me every day. It would have been life changing to have teachers and friends who shared similar beliefs and a love for the Lord.
The educators at this Christian College were different than any other teachers I had in the past. They all loved the Lord and were, in my opinion, not just intelligent, but wise. I felt loved, and I was told I was being prayed for daily. Their love and passion for the Lord was inspiring, and it captured my heart. They led by example, and I desired to have a deeper relationship with the Lord because of them. My teachers taught me how to integrate the Bible into reading, science, history, math etc.
This method of teaching was new to me, but it made sense. Why wouldn't we incorporate God into every aspect of life? I began seeing education in a whole new light, and it gave my relationship with the Lord a new dimension.
Today, I am a Christian school teacher and have the honor of sharing a Chirstian worldview with my students. With the help of A Beka, an excellent Christian curriculum, my students and I embark on wonderful adventures during reading time and learn about fascinating cultures during history. Also, Bible principles and truths are taught during math and science. No matter the subject, each lesson is Christ honoring.
The Lord has given me a great love for my students and a deep desire to help them succeed. It is my goal that my pupils feel safe, loved, and challenged in my class. Each child is different and has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. I recognize them and try to help them to reach their full potential.
I believe the Lord has not only called me to be a teacher but has also called me to Hebron Christian Academy and to each one of my students. Each child in my class is precious, and it is truly an honor to be a part of their lives.
